Nurse Assistant Program 114 hours

The Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training Program has helped thousands of Central Marylanders launch new careers. The course provides the information and skills nurse assistants need to provide quality care for residents in nursing homes, clients at home and patients in hospitals. The course meets federal and state training requirements to become a certified nursing assistant and a geriatric nursing assistant.

"Our Nurse Assistant training course is very fast paced," says Red Cross instructor Martha Gross. "Our students are out in the workforce after just four or five weeks." Those who successfully complete the course are eligible for a state certifying exam and go on to find jobs in hospitals, long-term care facilities, developmental disabilities homes and in home health care.

State regulations require anyone entering the nurse assistant profession to take a core course such as the Red Cross Training Program. Our course covers all aspects of care, including protecting people's rights, communication, infection control, mothers and newborns, and caring for people with AIDS and Alzheimer's disease. The training includes 72 hours of classroom work and another 42 hours of clinical training.
